House Bill 709 Increasing State Education Tax

Selectmen Oppose NH House Bill 709 (HB 709)

The Newington Selectmen submitted written testimony opposing the NH Legislative Education Committee HB 709. This proposed bill would resurrect “Donor” towns.

A decade ago “Donor” communities successfully repealed legislation that created “Donor and Receiver towns”.  This former bill required “Donor” towns to subsidize the education cost for “Receiver “ towns.  That legislation was extremely divisive and caused much dissention between “Donor and Receiver” Towns.  Newington’s property taxes nearly doubled.

The Selectmen will continue to fight this proposed legislation and will keep the Newington community informed.
