Public Hearing on the Spaulding Expansion

Newington/Dover Bridge Project
Spaulding Turnpike Expansion
Informational Meeting
Wednesday, May 27
6:30pm
Newington Town Hall

The State Department of Transportation is seeking public input on the Spaulding Turnpike expansion project at their meeting May 27.  In order to ensure that project decisions meet public transportation needs, community goals, and protect and enhance the environment, they ask all interested residents to attend.

There are very good, well thought out aspects of the Spaulding Project….and other parts we feel you should be aware of.  Once the project plans have been stamped, we, the people of Newington will have to live with these changes.

Just to list a few examples of what the discussion will be about:

The Dover/Newington Bridge will have eight (8) lanes.  (4 heading north/4 south)

There will be significant trees cut in the existing median.

There will be a new road configuration coming off the Spaulding servicing two
properties  with the intent to turn it over to the Town to maintain.

There are plans to raise the train tracks.

The Gosling connector will cross the Spaulding Turnpike and will open up Arboredum Drive adjacent to the former outdoor theater.

Your input is important at this time.   We urge each of you to come.

Thank you, Newington Board of Selectmen
