Best Wastewater Plant in the USA

The United States Environmental Protection Agency notified Town officials on September 12, 2005 that Newington's wastewater plant was

"selected as a first place winner of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 2005 National Clean Water Act Recognition Award. This selection is based on demonstrated creative and outstanding Operations and Maintenance (O&M) practices in the Small Secondary Plant category."

Our hats go off to Plant Manager Denis Messier, Maintenance Supervisor Jackson Hoyt, and Lab Technician/Operator Richard Clough.

Congratulations are due also to the Newington Sewer Commission (George Fletcher, Thomas Redden, and Robert Hart, Sr.) whose supportive and cooperative working relationship with the plant staff was instrumental in ahieving the high standards cited by the EPA in their award.

Mr. Messier will journey to our nation's capital on October 30 in order to accept the award.
