Whereas, Roger The Mailman Sklarski dutifully served the Town of Newington as long as anyone can remember; And Whereas, Roger The Mailman unfailingly delivered the mail (both important mail & junk mail) thru rain, snow, sleet, ice, fog, and scorching heat; And Whereas, Roger The Mailman knows everybody and everybody knows him, and he grew to know this town better than native and carpetbagger alike; And Whereas, said Mailman had the remarkable ability to spread news faster than The Fosters, Portsmouth's award winning daily, and all high speed internet connections; And Whereas, said Mailman carried in his head an extraordinary database of all resident birthdays over 40, vacation plans, newly acquired vehicles, and all manner of vital statistics; And Whereas, Roger The Mailman personally delivered all college acceptance and rejection letters to a generation of Newington scholars and would-be scholars; And Whereas, Roger The Mailman was a fount of botanical information which he freely shared with Newington's many green-thumbed practitioners; And Whereas, Roger The Mailman has become such a fixture in this Town that we the Newington Board of Selectmen do hereby make said Mailman an honorary citizen of our Town, together with all the privileges and responsibilities of such citizenship, not least of which includes a surcharge to said Mailman's property tax bill in order to join us in contributing to the statewide education property tax; Now Therefore, we the Newington Board of Selectmen do hereby proclaim our thanks and gratitude to Roger The Mailman Sklarski for his many years of service, and we do hereby place our hands and seals this nineteenth day of April in the Year of our Lord, Two Thousand & Two.
